Kim Bailey Why is it that the more I work out the more I feel the need to eat...I can have breakfast at 6 and then be hungry again at 7?...I try drinking water and I am still hungry....
Because there is a direct correlation between the energy you put out and the need for fuel to take in. Read the blog outlining the Fit True Nutrition plan and follow it. You will lose weight.
I have two friends, both on what I would consider to be opposite ends of the spectrum. Below are brief descriptions of each, and I have a few questions to follow.
Friend 1, we'll call him Carl, is on a very strict diet, eating only eggs (4 whites, 2 with whites and yolks), fish, whole grain pasta, chicken breasts, steak. He eats 6 times per day, and is very regimented. Carl DOES NOT eat vegetables, and tries to make up for them with suppliments. He is a student and works out 5-6 days per week, 90-120 minutes a day. By the way, he's about 6'2 230 lb, with less than 10% body fat and training to be a body builder (no roids involved).
Friend 2, we'll call her Amanda, is also on a very strict diet, she is a vegan. She eats 3-4 meals per day, and claims that she will get sick if she eats any sort of meat. Amanda tells me that she takes suppliments and eats a lot of nuts to make up for the protein she is missing from meat. Amanda is a local yoga instructor (also working a desk job 40 hours a week), and practices yoga at least once per day. As far as I know, this is all the exercising she does. Amanda is approximately 5'5 and weighs 115 lbs.
Questions: 1) Are the suppliments that both Amanda and Carl are taking enough to counter-balance what they are lacking in their diets?
2) Assuming they stay consistent with their diets and workout habits, who will be worse off in the long run? Should they be worried about their health down the road?
I went to my ART specialist the other day right after I injured myself in my workout. He did a treatment but commented that the area was really inflamed because I had just gotten the injury. I'm still in some pain today, but it's only been 2 days since I hurt myself. Do you recommend seeking immediate treatment for injuries or would you try to ice and home remedy minor injuries first and then seek professional help if the injury lingers? By minor injuries I mean, joint pain, muscle pulls, etc.
My man tim!!!! Hey buddy it's manny.... my question is where can i look for a very simple workout routine without wieghts... i want to start doing workouts for just my core.... i want to do things using medicine ball...running....burpees... sit ups...push ups....etc... im trying to get in shape for sports....
Heather Bassett Kidney if i do hardcore bootcamp on mon and tues... then take wed off, and my quads still kill on thurs, should i work out or take another day off?
tim its manny!!! i was asking about getting a starters workout routine without using a gym.... i'm playing baseball again and i want to work on my core< endurance, and loose fat.... i want simple routine using medicine ball, pushups, situps, etc....have any ideas where i can look?
why do my feet cramp when i am working out? not my toes, the arch and the rest of the foot around the arch. AND a couple of days after working out my knees hurt. I am afraid it's the start of bad knees...which would suck considering i just started working out i would hate to stop now!
Ryan, Nothing beats getting the nutrients your body needs as eating real food. Supplements are OK and some are really good, but food is the way to go.
In the long run, my money is on the body builder. #1 Because I know him. #2 I know that he will eventually grow up and eat his vegetables. #3 Vegetarians tend to have chronic problems because:
"Vegetarians always turn out to be deficient in zinc, B6, B9, B12, and have low scores in carnitine, taurine, and carnosine. Which makes it hard to make androgens, and recover from training loads. Veget...arian diets are awesome, as long as you add meat to them" - Charles Poliquin
Good question LaBelle. Usually the quicker you can get to an ART guy after an injury the better. However, if there is a lot of inflammation in the area the home remedy stuff might be best. But I'd get to one as soon as I could. Within a couple of days.
Anon who asked about P90x, I'd need more info on why its not working for you. Either message me (Tim Peirce) on Facebook or email me timsp1@hotmail.com
Heather, almost all cramping in working out is due to a lack of sodium and potassium in the body. Gatoraid should do the trick. If your sweat isn't salty to the taste then you are definitely depleted of sodium. Put some salt on your food if you're not eating too much processed food already and have a banana once in a while.
i have more... i don't want to drink gatorade because of any extra calories. (i'm not psycho about my calorie count, but if i'm going to have extra calories i want it to not be in a sports drink) am i crazy? 2.i heard someone at the gym say "the healthier you are, the more you sweat." is that true? (a client said it, not a trainer)
I hear ya about gatoraid. But if you were to take it you could dilute it with water. the carbs are there to drive you through your workout. The sodium and potassium in Gatoraid you can get from a little salt and potassium in your diet.
2. Not necessarily. Sweat is because the body is working hard and has to cool itself. A fat guy walking up three flights of stairs will sweat more than you doing it and he isn't healthier, right? Some guys could run a 6 minute mile and not break a sweat. That is great conditioning.

Heather, go ahead and work on Thur. You're probably not getting enough Protein which is keeping your muscles from recovering.

ReplyDeleteyou forgot to ask about the sweet potato, Heath... so Tim, is the sweet potato in fact the perfect food?
Court, great question deserving a whole blog of it's own. In general, there is no "perfect food." Likewise don't buy into the "super food" crap.
